Ailing Mt. Pleasant student passes away

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Mt. Pleasant Elementary student Henry Chang, age 7, passed away on July 21 after a valiant battle with childhood cancer.

Henry is survived by his mother, Heather Young, an art teacher at West Orange High School; his father Henry, an instructional aide in the West Orange School District; 5-year-old brother Derrick; grandparents; and loving family members and friends.

The viewing will be held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston, on Tuesday, July 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Gate of Heaven cemetery, 255 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover.

A mass will be held Wednesday, July 25, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Ave. in West Orange; as an honorary firefighter, little Henry will have honor guards from the Delran Fire Department standing tall by his side.

As Henry battled his illness, family and friends, along with students and staff of West Orange Schools, rallied to help the Chang family with fundraisers. The Delran Fire Company has established a GoFundMe page to help the family cover funeral costs and help with other medical expenses.
