WEST ORANGE, NJ — The annual Gregory Elementary School spelling bee on June 8 had students in grades three, four and five on the edge of their seats cheering on their finalists. Fourteen finalists from the three grades nervously appeared before their fellow students, each representing their classes where competitions were previously held.
“Thirty-eight rounds of spelling words were administered until a winner emerged,”Gregory Principal Michelle Thompson said in a press release.
Fifth-grader Madison Gough was named the 2016 Gregory spelling bee winner with the correct spelling of the word “bazooka.” Runners-up were fifth-grader Breylen Tyson and fourth-grader Amelie Bryant.
“All our spellers did an absolutely amazing job and we are proud of every single student,” Thompson added.
