Authorities investigate dead body found in Maplewood

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Maplewood Police Chief Robert Cimino have announced that authorities are investigating the recovery of a body in Maplewood earlier this morning, May 30. Shortly before 4 a.m., Maplewood police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Wyoming Avenue and Hickory Drive on a report of a person lying in the street. Arriving units observed an unresponsive male on Wyoming Avenue. The male, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:19 a.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

This matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Maplewood Police Department, according to Fennelly, who added that the cause and manner of death will be determined by an autopsy at the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation is active and ongoing.
