Community unites to mourn synagogue shooting victims

WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Human Relations Commission held a candlelight vigil Oct. 30 in front of Town Hall to honor the 11 shooting victims who were murdered at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh on Oct. 27. Hundreds of residents and town officials attended the vigil, where they lit candles to remember the lives lost.

In attendance were West Orange Township Council members Victor Cirilo, Michelle Casalino, Joe Krakoviak and Jerry Guarino, and council President Susan McCartney. Mayor Robert Parisi was also at the vigil, along with former West Orange Mayor and current Assemblyman John McKeon and state Sen. Richard Codey.

Members of the clergy in West Orange were also at the event, including Rabbi Robert Tobin from B’nai Shalom, Pastor Terry Smith from The Life Christian Church, Rabbi Mendy Kasowitz from Chabad of West Orange, Rabbi Eliezer Zwickler from Congregation Ahawas Achim B’nai Jacob & David, Pastor Douglas Adams from JOY Church of God and Rev. Miguel Hernandez from Holy Trinity Church.
