Glen Ridge Library has many activities for children

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Glen Ridge Public Library has announced upcoming children’s programs for the month of December.

• Baby Play Group, Tuesdays at 9 to 10 a.m., ages 0 to 23 months with a caregiver A drop-in play group that encourages socialization among children ages 0 to 23 months. Toys and books for babies are available. Caregivers are required to stick around while their child plays.

• Toddler Play Group, Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m.; for children 23 months old and older, with a caregiver. A drop-in play group for children aged 24 months and older that promotes socialization. Age-appropriate toys and books are provided. Caregivers are required to remain in attendance.

• Lego Day, Saturday, Dec. 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drop in to build structures using the library’s big Lego collection.

• Block Buddies, Fridays in December, from 9 a.m. to noon. Children are invited to come and play with the library’s collection of wooden blocks. “Playing with blocks has developmental benefits that can improve, motor skills and hand-eye coordination, spatial skills, a capacity for creative, divergent thinking, social skills, and language skills,’ said a library press release.

• American Red Cross Babysitters Training, Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. For ages 11 to 16. A fee is charged. To provide youth who are planning to baby-sit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a baby-sitting business, keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care and basic first aid. register and pay at the American Red Cross website.

• Holiday Break Fun at the Library, Fingerprint Art, Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants will create artwork using their fingertips.

• “Finding Dory,” animated movie, PG-rated, to be shown Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. Dory, spoken by Ellen DeGeneres, is a wide-eyed, blue tang fish who
suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds or so. The one thing she can remember is that she somehow became separated from her parents as a child. With help from her friends, Dory embarks on an epic adventure to find them.

• Pokemon Scavenger Hunt and Craft, Thursday, Dec. 29, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A fun Pokemon scavenger hunt and craft.

• Noon Year’s Eve Party, Friday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. A special kids’ Noon Year’s Eve Party with noisemaker, snacks, a story and then everyone will countdown to noon!
