Glen Ridge releases schedule, guidelines for leaf pickup

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The following release was received from the borough of Glen Ridge regarding the upcoming leaf-collection schedule which continued through Dec. 28.

New Jersey state law prohibits disposal of leaves this fall with other garbage at the resource recovery facility. The borough is mandated to provide pickup and removal to an approved, designated compost area.

The borough of Glen Ridge has contracted a truck to specifically pick up bagged leaves at curbside, beginning the week of Nov. 7 and terminating Dec. 28. Residents must use biodegradable bags or clear plastic bags. No black bags will be accepted for pickup.

These curbside pickups will be made on a homeowner’s first regularly scheduled garbage collection each week.

If your garbage is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays, Monday will be your leaf collection day, beginning Nov. 7, and terminating with a final pickup date of Dec. 26.

If your garbage is picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays, Tuesday will be your leaf-collection day, beginning Nov. 8, and terminating with a final pickup date of Dec. 27.

If your garbage is picked up on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Wednesday will be your leaf collection day beginning Nov. 9, and terminating with a final pickup date of Dec. 28.

Leaves may not be placed at curbside on your second collection day of the week; Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

• Bags must only contain leaves.
• Leaf bags will not be picked up if they exceed a 50-pound weight limit.
• No garden debris should be mixed with leaves.
• No grass clippings should be mixed with leaves.
• No sticks or branches should be mixed with leaves.
• Garden and yard debris is picked up at the curb on your first scheduled collection day — Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday— and must be packaged separately from leaves.
• Leaves may not be raked onto any streets or gutters in the borough, including county roads.
• Bags may not be placed into any streets or gutters in the borough, including county roads.

New Jersey Laws and borough of Glen Ridge ordinance provide for penalties for residents who do not follow this program.

For the convenience of residents, sturdy 55-gallon plastic bags are available at the Municipal Building at a minimal cost.

Your regular rear yard collection of garbage will continue to be picked up twice a week.
