GR Police invite residents to have ‘Coffee with a Cop’

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The Glen Ridge Police Department will present “Coffee with a Cop” on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Glen Ridge Train Station. The department has invited members of the community to join them in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships, meet the borough police officers and drink coffee.

“Coffee with a Cop” provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department. The goal of “Coffee with a Cop” is to break down barriers and to allow a relaxed, one-on-one interaction between police officers and the community.

In a press release, the department said, “We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers and that these interactions will be the foundation of community partnerships.”
“Coffee with a Cop” is a national initiative supported by U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.
Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members.
