MAPLEWOOD, NJ — The two candidates running for the sole open seat on the Maplewood Township Committee participated in a candidates’ forum at DeHart Community Center last night, Sept. 22. The forum was hosted by the Hilton Neighborhood Association and moderated by Carol Buchanan.

Running for the TC are Democrat Frank McGehee and Republican Michael Summersgill. Both put in an impressive showing, with thought-out and comprehensive answers. And, while they agreed on some issues, they disagreed on some major ones, such as effective ways to combat the constantly rising taxes in Maplewood.

To see the complete story on the debate, see the next issue of the News-Record, which will come out Thursday, Sept. 29.

Also, be aware that the HNA will be holding a candidates’ forum for the five candidates running for the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the DeHart Community Center, 120 Burnett Ave. in Maplewood.
