MAPLEWOOD, NJ — On Thursday, Dec. 6, Maplewood community members gathered in Ricalton Square to celebrate the fifth night of Hanukkah by lighting the Hanukkah menorah. The celebration was attended by Mayor Vic DeLuca, members of the Maplewood Township Committee, and Dickens Village Co-chairwomen Ellen Davenport and Rosetta Weiser. With the help of Rabbi Sholom Bogomilsky of Congregation Beth Ephraim, Township Committeeman Dean Dafis lit the shamash, or “attendant candle.” The event included singing, jelly doughnuts and latkes.
Two days later, on Dec. 8, the Springfield Avenue Partnership held a multicultural holiday celebration at its gazebo, with live music from Bruno Lee Presents YAH Squad and the Seth Boyden chorus. The event included storytelling, holiday crafts, refreshments and photos with Santa.
