Maplewood man killed in Union, police investigate homicide

UNION, NJ — The homicide of a Maplewood man in Union Township is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced July 5 in a press release.

The victim has been identified as Matthew Murrell, 25, of Maplewood.

Police responded to a home on the 800 block of Salem Road in Union shortly before 5 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, and found Murrell’s body in the yard. He was pronounced dead a short while later.

A joint investigation involving the Union County Homicide Task Force, the Union Police Department and the Union County Sheriff’s Office’s Identification Unit remains ongoing.
