WEST ORANGE, NJ — The annual Homecoming game will be held today, Oct. 14, at Suriano Stadium beginning at 7 p.m., and this year’s nominees for king and queen represent some of West Orange High School’s best and brightest students.
In addition to the presentation of the Homecoming Court, the football team will kick off against Barringer, the SEC champion cheerleading team will demonstrate their skills and the Marching Mountaineers will perform their winning routine featuring live vocals. Food and refreshments will also be available for purchase.
Here are the nominees for Homecoming king and queen:
Sophia Adelson
Sophia is president of the French Honor Society and participates each year in Poetry Out Loud. She is a member of the girls’ softball team and the National Honor Society, in addition to being a Mountaineer Mentor. Sophia received a “Tomorrow’s Teachers” scholarship and her favorite subjects are AP calculus and biology. Her top school choice is Wellesley and she is undecided about a major.
Divya Anand
Divya is the Marching Mountaineer drum major, member of the Jazz Band and Pit Orchestra. She plans to participate in the newly-forming Science Olympiad team and is the treasurer of the Tri-M Honor Society. Her favorite subjects are biology and chemistry. She is a member of the National Honor Society and wants to attend Johns Hopkins University to study biochemistry.
Emma Scalora
Emma is the captain of both the cheerleading and girls’ softball teams. She is a Mountaineer Mentor, publicity officer of the Healthy Living Club, and a member of the National Honor Society. Her favorite subject is AP psychology. She is undecided about what college she will attend but plans to major in business.
Abraham Dada
Abraham is Class Council president, vice-president of the Italian Honor Society and a member of the Science, Math, Escriptus, Italian and National honor societies. He is on the wrestling team and plays baritone saxophone in the Marching Band in addition to being a Mountaineer Mentor. He is co-founder of the newly forming Science Olympiad and wants to attend Harvard to study neurobiology.
Bryce Millington
Bryce is co-captain of the boys’ soccer team and a member of the golf team. He is a Mountaineer Mentor, part of the French Club and plays saxophone in the Jazz Band. He is a member of the Tri-M, Science, Math, French, and National honor societies. He plans to attend Emory University and major in a biology pre-med track.
Andrei Rosu
Andrei is co-captain of the boys’ soccer team and a member of the wrestling and baseball teams. He is deputy commander of the Jr. Air Force ROTC and a member of the Science and National honor societies. He plans to attend West Point and major in business.
WOHS seniors will vote for their Homecoming king and queen, who will be announced at the start of halftime during the game. In addition, honorary Homecoming king and queen Junior Ogoke and Ashley Velasquez will be crowned.
