NEWARK, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced that an Essex County jury has convicted Angel Carlo, 30, of Newark of attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose following a trial before the Honorable John Zunic, Judge of the Superior Court.

Carlo, who goes by the nickname Rage, faces up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison when he is sentenced on April 25.

According to Assistant Prosecutor Allison Korodan, who tried the case with Assistant Prosecutor David Feldman, on Oct. 29, 2014 Carlo shot the victim in the 600 block of Broadway in the city of Newark. The two had been in an argument earlier in the day that led to a fistfight.

Later that night they ran into each other again and Carlo shot the victim multiple times. The victim survived but two days later Carlo was charged with attempted murder.

“We believe the jurors got it right when they convicted this defendant on all counts. He demonstrated a callous disregard for human life when he decided to resolve a petty dispute with a handgun,’’ said Korodan.
