Newark police arrest 4 for prostitution, 9 for soliciting

NEWARK, NJ — In response to quality of life complaints, Newark Police arrested four women and nine men for prostitution in the area of Clinton Avenue and 20th Street to Hawthorne Avenue and Birks Place on Friday, Sept. 9, according to a Sept. 10 press release from the Newark Police Department.

The women arrested are Gretchen Ford, 51, of Newark; Charlette Chapman, 41, of Newark; Juanita Coleman, 49, of Irvington; and Shenik Hunter, 39 of Irvington.

The nine males arrested while allegedly seeking sex for money are Ikhayere Collins, 44, of Newark; Stanley Stflevr, 22, of Irvington; Jean Georges, 23, of Maplewood; Manuel Yupa-Maurizaca, 40, of Orange; Naquan Oneil, 39, of Newark; Troy Kearney, 39 of Irvington; James Banks, 30, of Newark; Allen E. Brown, 42, of Stroudsburg, Pa.; and John Jackson, 37, of Staten Island, N.Y.

All were charged with prostitution; a total of seven vehicles were towed during the arrests.

These charges are merely accusations. These suspects are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
