O/WO UNICO returns from national convention in Maryland

CAMBRIDGE, MD — The Orange-West Orange Chapter of UNICO National has just returned from the 94th.National Convention at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay in Cambridge, Md. The Orange-West Orange chapter is extremely active with the national organization and donates monies to their major causes, such as scholarships, mental health, Cooley’s anemia, cancer research and more. Chapter president Frank Paolercio also presented a check for $7,500 to support cancer research, raised by an annual bocce fundraiser sponsored by UNICO New Jersey District XI. The chapter also provides five local scholarships annually and sponsored Henry Francis Taibi for the Major Don S. Gentile Memorial Scholarship, which he was awarded by UNICO National.

The chapter also sponsored Army Capt. Justin Patrick Sandy, who won the Louis Attilio DeFilippo-An American Hero Award. In his youth Sandy was an active member of the chapter, an Eagle Scout, a West Point award recipient, and received the Bronze Star and several other citations. He served in Afghanistan and is truly a hero to to the O/WO UNICO chapter.

The Orange-West Orange Chapter received the national Model Chapter award in 2015 and was second in 2016. The chapter has served the communities of Orange and West Orange for more than 60 years, providing more than $500,000.00 in scholarships, and supporting many community needs and local projects.
