Pedestrian killed in West Orange accident with bus

WEST ORANGE, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and West Orange Police Chief James Abbott announced May 26 that the West Orange Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal pedestrian incident.

At approximately 9:31 a.m. on May 26, Dilma Khan, 82, of West Orange was struck by a DeCamp bus and killed at the intersection of Mississippi and Harrison avenues.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the DeCamp bus was traveling east on Mississippi Avenue and was attempting to make a left turn onto Harrison Avenue when the bus struck the pedestrian, who was crossing Harrison Avenue.

The pedestrian  was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:07 a.m. The bus driver remained at the scene, rendered assistance and called police. At this time the driver has not been charged.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
