SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — South Orange police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the man and woman pictured. According to police in a Dec. 7 release, the couple entered South Orange Middle School on Nov. 15 through a rear entrance and remained inside the building for nearly two hours. The woman was in possession of what appears to be a bottle of wine, which the couple drank while inside the school library. The couple entered numerous other rooms and damaged some student artwork before exiting the building.

The time stamp on the security footage shows that the couple entered the building at approximately 10 p.m. According to South Orange-Maplewood School District spokeswoman Suzanne Turner, the door was locked at the time of entry and the trespassers gained entry as others left the building.

“There are custodians in the building at that time. In addition, the Adult School was running their usual programming that evening, and they had participants and staff in the building at the time,” Turner told the News-Record in a Dec. 8 email. “The door was locked. The intruders entered SOMS when participants in the Adult School program opened the door on their way out of the building.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Davenport at 973-763-3000, ext. 7795.
