WEST ORANGE, NJ — Members of the Science National Honor Society spent the morning of Nov. 18 planting six new trees to beautify the landscape on the Pleasant Valley Way side of West Orange High School.
“We have wanted to do something for a while now,” SNHS adviser Ronald Brandt said, “and we all decided to that we would purchase the trees for the high school with funds we had raised.”
Four Kwanzan cherry trees were planted along the front of the building and two green giant arborvitae evergreens were placed flanking the entrance to the auditorium.
Approximately 30 SNHS students participated by breaking up the ground, along with society President Margaux Whitehead and Vice President Tiffany Sagastume, braving chilly temperatures enthusiastically. Parent Michael Giovine of Giovine Landscaping donated his services to pick up the trees and help to plant them.
Supporting the students were Principal Hayden Moore, science supervisor Stephanie Suriano, Brandt and SNHS co-adviser Sonia Laureni.
