Anthony Condito

Anthony Condito, a senior right fielder on the Nutley High School baseball team, is considered one of the top baseball players in the state. Condito, also the starting quarterback for the NHS football team, last fall signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his baseball career at Rutgers University on an athletic scholarship. This spring, Condito, who bats and throws left-handed, has been wreaking havoc. He became the Raiders’ all-time hits leader in the 9-3 road win over rival Belleville as he collected two hits to give him 124 for his career to set the NHS career record. Through May 17, Condito was batting .434 with eight homers and 29 RBIs this season, and .455 with 17 home runs, 87 RBIs and 136 hits for his career.

As a player, which do you like better, baseball or football?
I love the game of football, but baseball is my passion. Ever since I was little
and I picked up a ball, my brother and my father inspired me to play.

Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
I tape my bracelets under my wrist every game. I feel they are
a good luck charm for me.

You’re a Mets fan. Who’s your favorite player?
How are team’s chances this year?
Favorite Met player is Michael Conforto because of his impact at such a young age.
I feel another national league title is appropriate for this season. I think they can do exactly what the Royals did last year and get back there (World Series). The Royals got back to the World Series and won it, and I think the Mets are going to do the same
thing. Their pitching is very dominant. I think they are very strong, 1 through 8
with the batters. Even their pitchers, they are also good hitters.

What are your plans for the summer?
I plan on relaxing because this is the first summer off from football. I plan on
spending a lot of time soaking up the sun.

Why did you decide to attend Rutgers?
Close to home, and I want my family, friends and coaches to see me play at the
next level. Great academic school, as well.

What are you going to miss about Nutley High?
Everything. Nutley High gave me the best four years of my life and I can’t thank my teachers coaches and friends enough. Playing at the Oval was a blessing and a lot of fun.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
Super strength
