SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — On Sept. 11 at approximately 12:15 p.m., South Orange police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call stating that an individual had fallen from the roof of the parking deck located on the campus of Seton Hall University.
According to South Orange police, officers arrived to discover a male victim lying on the grass median adjacent to the parking deck’s vehicular exit. The victim, who was later identified as Julian M. Mislavsky, had sustained life-threatening injuries. Mislavsky, 23, a senior at the university who was from Morristown, was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 1:12 p.m.
The cause of death will be determined pending the results of an autopsy from the Medical Examiner’s Office, South Orange police said in a statement. At this time, the preliminary investigation reveals no evidence of foul play; however, the incident is still being investigated by detectives at this time.
Interim university President Mary J. Meehan wrote a short letter to the university community Sept. 11 offering support.
“We will have a memorial service on campus, but until the arrangements can be finalized I ask you again to remember Julian and his family and friends in your prayers,” Meehan wrote. “This is a difficult time for our community and we all respond differently to tragedy. I urge you to seek assistance from our counseling and Campus Ministry services at any time if you feel the need for support.”
