SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — South Orange presented a proclamation on Sept. 12 to congratulate SAGE Eldercare for its Meals on Wheels 50th anniversary. SAGE serves approximately 44,000 meals to nearly 250 clients annually in 10 communities, including South Orange.
SAGE Eldercare began its Meals on Wheels in October 1966 with funding received from the Summit Junior League. Volunteers were recruited from various organizations such as the College Club, United Church Women, P.E.O., Red Cross, Women Pioneers of Bell Laboratories and the Junior Fortnightly Club.
The proclamation states, “Be it proclaimed by the Village President of the Township of South Orange Village, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, and the entire Village of South Orange that sincerest congratulations are hereby extended to SAGE Eldercare and the Meals on Wheels program that has been serving communities with professional and highly trained staff who provide a wide array of information, support, and services designed to help older adults lead the most independent and active lives possible within their communities, and creating an amazing place to age.”
South Orange seniors were the benefactors of a Subaru “Share the Love” grant to Meals on Wheels in 2015.
“Hopefully, this is the beginning of a long partnership between South Orange Village and SAGE Eldercare. This is a fabulous group to work with,” village President Sheena Collum said upon issuing the proclamation.
