WEST ORANGE, NJ — Street signs in honor of two fallen West Orange police officers were unveiled Saturday, Aug. 26, at intersections in the township.
The intersections of Mount Pleasant and Brennan Drive, Northfield Avenue and Brennan Drive, and Mount Pleasant and Laird Drive now feature signs with the names Edward J. Brennan and Daniel B. Laird, the only two police officers to die in the line of duty in the West Orange Police Department’s 133-year history.
Brennan died March 6, 1927, three days after the 10-year police veteran crashed his police motorcycle on Eagle Rock. The second officer, Patrolman Daniel Laird, died in an automobile accident while on duty Oct. 28, 1946.
