MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood recently celebrated the completion of its table tennis courts upgrades.
According to Andrew Haines, who represents Maplewood Platform Tennis, the maintenance was necessary because the courts get a lot of ply and had many problems with screens, structure and courts. The Township Committee budgeted $35,000 for the project, which was completed by Total Platform Tennis. The project included court resurfacing, screen repair and replacement, painting the entire structure, new heaters, windscreens, retention nets, and new nets and posts.
Platform tennis is typically played at clubs that are expensive to join,” Haines said in a press release. “Maplewood provides an excellent municipal facility for all residents to use at no cost, and has invested in maintenance to ensure the courts will continue to support the growing platform tennis community.”
This project was a collaboration between Maplewood Platform Tennis, which is composed of five men’s and two women’s teams; the Recreation Department; the Department of Public Works, the Open Space Trust Fund; and the Township Committee.
