WEST ORANGE, NJ — Washington Elementary School recently held its 14th annual flag salute ceremony in honor of veterans in anticipation of Memorial Day.

The ceremony began with students walking into the assembly with the veterans, who have family members attending Washington. The flag salute was led by Student council representative Ezra Simon, who read the poem “We Remember Them,” which was echoed by everyone as it was read.

The National Anthem was sung by Corporal Harvey Lott and Principal Marie DeMaio introduced the veterans and spoke about Memorial Day. After the Washington School Honor Choir sang “My Country Tis of Thee,” Commander Ralph Panciello and Lott spoke to the students. To conclude the service, “Taps” was played.
