WEST ORANGE, NJ – Second-grade students at Kelly Elementary School had a surprise visit on Sept. 7 from West Orange Rotary and the West Orange African Heritage Organization, who brought 140 backpacks for distribution.
Rotarian Cynthia Hadley-Bailey, whose children attended Kelly — formerly Pleasantdale — Elementary School, brought 100 backpacks and WOAHO President Robert Simmons brought 40. Each second-grader received a backpack; students in grades three and four will receive the remainder.
“Our visitors today help our community all the time,” Principal Joanne Pollara said in a press release. “They are bucket fillers,” she continued, describing an ongoing kindness program at Kelly.
“We hope these backpacks will help you learn and get organized and do well in school,” Hadley-Bailey told students as she helped to distribute backpacks.
