WEST ORANGE, NJ — The valedictorian and salutatorian of the West Orange High School Class of 2018 were honored at the 31st annual Essex County Academic Awards Banquet, held April 30 at Nanina’s in the Park in Bloomfield. The banquet recognizes the top two students from each public high school in Essex County.
WOHS valedictorian Aishwarya Kanagala will be attending Rutgers University following graduation. She is involved in the French, Escriptus, math, science and national honor societies. She plans to major in computer science and business and her course work at WOHS reflects AP classes in computer science, statistics, calculus, physics and literature, along with business organization and management. She is a member of the Science Olympiad team.
WOHS salutatorian Aion Ashby will be attending Johns Hopkins University, where she also plans to major in computer science and business. She performs in the Chamber Orchestra, takes AP classes in computer science, AP physics, statistics, calculus, and business organization and management. She is a Mountaineer Mentor, a member of the Italian Club and Sports Medicine Club, and a member of the Italian, Escriptus, social studies, science and national honor societies.
“On behalf of the teachers and staff at West Orange High School, we want to congratulate Aishwarya and Aion and wish them the best as they move on to college. They truly represent the spirit and caliber of our students and we are very proud of them,” WOHS Principal Hayden Moore said.
