WEST ORANGE, NJ — Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and West Orange Police Chief James Abbott announced today, Nov. 17, that the West Orange Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal pedestrian incident in which a 72-year-old woman was struck and killed.
At approximately 7:36 a.m. on Nov. 16, Juliet Bergen, 72, of West Orange was struck by a Toyota Camry in the vicinity of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Kelly Drive in West Orange.
She sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 16.
No criminal charges have been filed against the driver who stopped and called for assistance. The investigation is active and ongoing. No other information is available at this time.
