WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange High School varsity cheerleaders continued their winning ways with a first-place win at the UCA Empire Regional Championship, held at Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y., on Dec. 2.

“This event is a qualifier for the National High School Cheerleading Championship hosted by UCA in Orlando, Fla., in February,” head cheer coach Olivia Del Spina said. “The WOHS varsity competition team placed first in Small Varsity Non-Tumbling and second in Game Day Non-Tumbling.”

Both placements earned the team invitations to the National High School Cheerleading Championship, to be held Feb. 8 through 10, in Orlando.

“This is the third year in a row WOHS has taken home first at the regional qualifier!” Del Spina said.

Led by Del Spina and assistant coaches Taylor Calixto and Ashley Rhodes, the varsity cheerleading squad comprises seniors Viviana Cardona, Linnea Nichols, Zaria Young, Nayesha Woolridge, Emily Weingold, Camryn Fiore and Daniela Wahlers; juniors LaCaiya Hill Dewitt and Bri’an Kelly Jackson; and sophomores Myah Sellers, Gabriella Charles and Leila Garraud.
