WEST ORANGE, NJ — With the recent resignation of Bruce Arcurio, principal at Redwood Elementary School, Superintendent of Schools Jeff Rutzky has named Heather Carr as the interim principal. The text of the letter sent to Redwood parents is below.
Carr will assume the post effective Aug. 30. Carr has previously served as interim principal for Hazel School in May and June 2016, and as interim assistant principal at Washington School for the 2016-2017 school year.
“Dr. Carr has a wealth of teaching and administrative experience,” Rutzky said in a recent letter sent to Redwood parents and guardians. “During her career she has taught at both the elementary and middle school levels. She has spent many years in the neighboring Bloomfield School District as a teacher, principal, and director. Prior to retirement, Dr. Carr served as an elementary principal of Berkeley School where she spent four years working with the school community to address the unique learning needs of her students.”
According to Rutzky, during this week, the week of Aug. 28, Carr will transition into the position with the assistance of Arcurio. Additionally, the district will hold a meet-and-greet event on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 7 p.m. in the school’s multipurpose room to give students, staff, parents and guardians a chance to interact with Carr.
Rutzky added that the district will begin its search for a permanent principal for Redwood sometime in the late fall or early winter.
