ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Soroptimist International of Suburban Essex has been serving the communities of Essex County and surrounding counties since 1949. For the sixth year, SISE members assembled HUGS tote bags with essential items for women arriving at a local shelter after fleeing domestic violence. HUGS reflects Healing, Understanding and the Great Strength of survivors. Assorted bath items, toiletries, clothing and slippers are placed in the tote bags, personalized with a note of encouragement and delivered individually to women when they arrive. The shelter supported by the Union County YWCA is the site of this year’s SISE donation.

Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization for professional women working through service projects to advance human rights and the status of women. SISE members represent a wide variety of professions and use their collective talents to make the world a better place for women and girls. Soroptimists improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
