BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Princeton Review has named Bloomfield College a top undergraduate school for Game Design in its 12th annual ranking list, “Top 50 Undergraduate Schools for Game Design for 2021.” Bloomfield College is ranked highest in New Jersey and No. 34 nationally among undergraduate schools offering programs in game design.
“The Bloomfield College game design program has received national and state recognition across the past three years,” said GJ Lee, assistant professor and coordinator of game development. “We have a dedicated community of inspiring faculty and staff who strengthen our program and create opportunities for our students. This was a tough year for all and we acknowledge the hard work, leadership and collaboration needed to maintain this support network.”
The Princeton Review chose the schools based on an analysis of more than 40 survey data points captured in its 2020 survey of administrators at 150 institutions across the United States and abroad that offer game design courses, majors or degree programs. The survey collected information about the schools’ game design programs in four areas: academics, faculty, technology and career prospects.
Bloomfield College’s Bachelor of Arts in game design within the Creative Arts & Technology Division is a practice-orientated program focused on core principles, concepts, methodologies and skills that are reinforced through the creation of hands-on projects. Many courses also involve students working on collaborative team-based projects that mimic real-world game development environments. Theoretical knowledge and practical methods converge within these environments to provide students with the experience they need to truly understand and overcome the complexities involved in making games.
“We highly recommend Bloomfield College and every one of the schools that made our Top Schools for Game Design lists for 2021,” said Rob Franek, editor in chief for The Princeton Review. “Their faculties are superlative. Their facilities are state-of-the-art. Their alumni include many of the video game industry’s most prominent artists, designers, developers and entrepreneurs.”
The Princeton Review developed its Top Schools for Game Design project in 2009 with assistance from a national advisory board that helped design the project survey and ranking list methodology.
“National recognition from the Princeton Review validates the strength of our faculty at Bloomfield College,” Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty Michael Palladino said. “We continue to innovate and are honored to receive this recognition.”
