Bloomfield police arrest man for early morning shooting

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — On Sunday, Feb. 7, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Bloomfield police units responded to the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue on report of a shooting. Upon police arrival, it was determined that a male victim had sustained a gunshot wound to the right hand. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment prior to police arrival. Detective Bureau personnel responded to the scene, along with Bloomfield Police Crime Scene Units, and gathered key pieces of evidence from the scene. 

Bloomfield Detective Bureau personnel recovered video surveillance from the surrounding area and worked diligently investigating this incident. After their investigation, detectives identified Andre King, 34, of Newark, as the shooter. 

On Tuesday, March 9, at 9:30 a.m., detectives were conducting surveillance and observed King exit his residence and enter a vehicle that was registered to his fiancee. Bloomfield detective units apprehended King on an active warrant. 

King was processed and charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

These charges are merely accusations; the defendant is presumed innocent unless or until found guilty in a court of law.
