Historical Society plans 50th year year

BLOOMFIELD, NJ — The Historical Society of Bloomfield celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2016. The HSOB is an outgrowth of the Sesquicentennial Celebration of 1962 and was incorporated in 1966. The museum, located on the third floor of the Bloomfield Children’s Library at 90 Broad St., is also celebrating 50 years, having had its grand opening in May 1966.

Activities planned for the 50th anniversary are in the works, and include Morris Canal hikes, Bloomfield Cemetery tours and an ice cream social. Local historical presentations will be held on Tuesdays, May 24 and Oct. 25, at the Bloomfield Civic Center, 84 Broad St.

The HSOB Museum is dedicated to the culture, people and history of Bloomfield. The collection consists of furniture, clothing and accessories, tools, household articles, paintings, toys, posters, memorabilia, dioramas, maps, newspapers, postcards, letters, deeds, documents, books and much more. Located on the third floor of the Children’s Library at 90 Broad St., hours are Wednesdays, 2 to 4:30 p.m., Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and by appointment.
