BLOOMFIELD, NJ — Thirteen petitions have been filed in the municipal clerk’s office for the June 7 primary elections for mayor and council. Two Democrats are running for mayor; seven Democrats are running for three at-large council seats.
The winners will run in the November general election against a Republican slate, which is uncontested in the primaries, and any possible Independent candidates. Independent candidates have until June 7 to file their petitions.
Democrats running for mayor are incumbent Mayor Michael Venezia and Councilman Joseph Lopez.
Venezia has the backing of the Essex County Democratic Committee. His slate for council are incumbents Carlos Pomares and Wartyna Davis and Ted Gamble. Lopez’s slate for council are Katherine DeMarino, Yudi Sobharam and Jo Lewis. Stephen DiMarzo, a Democrat, is also running for council.
The Republican slate is David Tucker for mayor with Hector Correa, Ciro Spina III, and Caesar Mazzeo for council.
