ECC offers summer camp for future college students

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — Rising high school juniors and seniors can earn college credits at Essex County College’s Summer Camp 2020. The online program runs from July 6 to Aug. 14.

“The program is for those students interested in college after graduating high school,” said Elvy Vieira, dean of ECC’s Office of Community, Continuing Education and Workforce Development. The program is offered free through funding from the state Office of Higher Education and the New Jersey Council of County Colleges as part of the state’s College Readiness Now VI, she said.

“Our High School Initiatives program provides future college students with a foundation to better succeed at the next level of their education,” ECC President Anthony Munroe said.

Participants will be able to take six college credits from an offering of college success seminar, English foundations, English composition and effective speech. Also available is a math refresher course for college readiness. Students will also learn computer apps and platforms for developing online academic skills. The courses will all be taught remotely by ECC faculty.

High school students interested in Summer Camp 2020 should contact their high school guidance counselor or Essex County College’s Pre-College Readiness Program coordinator Yelena Pirtskhalava at [email protected].
