Junior League accepting applications for Community Grants Program

ESSEX COUNTY, NJ — The Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills Inc. invites local non-profit organizations to apply for a Community Grant for 2015-2016. It is offering grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000. Grant recipients will be announced in spring 2016.

The grants will be awarded to qualifying organizations whose programs further JLOSH’s new “Fill the Need Initiative.” This initiative focuses on addressing the basic needs of low-income children in the joint service area through community work dedicated to closing the gap on food insecurity, school supply gaps, essential clothing and basic hygiene needs of school-aged children living in poverty.

It is believed, when these basic needs are met, low-income children can be helped to focus their energy on succeeding in school and building a more secure future. Grants will be awarded only to “Fill the Need Initiative” programs that target the communities in JLOSH’s service area, which includes East Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Orange, Short Hills, South Orange, Springfield and West Orange.

Non-profit organizations interested in applying for a JLOSH Community Grant are invited to visit the League’s website, www.JLOSH.org. The grant application must be completed no later than Friday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m. Questions regarding the grant application or selection process should be directed to Michelle Burroughs, JLOSH Grant Evaluation Committee chairwoman, at 973-379-9655 or by email at [email protected].

JLOSH has a long history of serving our community with hands-on volunteer work, as well as generous grants to community organizations, including awarding $30,000 in community grants to six organizations in 2012-2013, and $10,000 each in 2013-2014 and 2014-2015.

Every year, JLOSH members work together to tackle critical needs of women and children in the area. Founded in 1913, JLOSH reaches out to women of all races, religions and national origins.
