Fugitive Apprehension Team arrests two men wanted for separate shootings

EAST ORANGE, NJ — Two East Orange men, Marquis Belnavis, 22, and Kazimir Jones, 20, were arrested on Thursday, July 21, after being sought for two separate shootings by Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives.

On Monday, July 18, Belnavis shot three people in the 200 block of Georgia King Village. The victims were released after being treated at Rutgers NJ Medical School.

On Monday, June 27, Jones fled the block of Goodwin Avenue after shooting a gun at a 22-year-old male. The victim responded to Beth Israel Hospital where he was treated and released.

Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives obtained warrants for the suspects, after gathering sufficient evidence during the investigation. Fugitive detectives immediately initiated a search after obtaining the warrants.

Early on the morning of Thursday, July 21, fugitive detectives immediately starting searching for Belnavis, who, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, was located leaving an apartment complex and walking along NJ Route 166 in Toms River, where he was arrested without incident.

Members of the Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Team, assisted by members of the New Jersey State Parole, were able to locate Jones at an Integrity House along Longworth Avenue and apprehended him.

Belnavis is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a handgun and possession of the handgun for unlawful purposes, while Jones was charged with possession of a handgun, aggravated assault and possession of the handgun for unlawful purposes.

These are accusation with the suspects, innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
