New exhibit “Now Doing the Talking” showcases trailblazing athletes-turned-broadcasters

UPPER MONTCLAIR – Never have televised sports become so pervasive.  In today’s ever-widening world of sports there are more games, more pre-game shows, more post-game analyses, more everything.

And more and more former athletes dominate the airwaves. We take for granted the countless ex-players who transition from the playing field to the broadcast booth or studio, but these career paths were essentially paved by some captivating and pioneering ex-players, especially in baseball.

Putting it in perspective, the Yogi Berra Museum & Learning Center is showcasing a host of those vintage voices, including New York announcing icons Ralph Kiner and Phil Rizzuto in a new exhibit, “Now Doing the Talking.” This interactive exhibit – which runs from November 18, 2015-March 18, 2016 – shines a light on the most influential ex-players who called the games they once played.

Not all on-air analysts or play-by-play announcers are created equal. “Now Doing the Talking” highlights the ones who helped change the profession – and created a whole new ballgame.
