Artisan market set for Unhinged Retreat

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — A free artists lecture and artisan market will be held at the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge on Saturday, April 16, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. This event is part of three days of workshops presented during the Artist’s Unhinged Retreat being held at the Women’s Club, 219 Ridgewood Ave., on April 15, 16 and 17.

Admission is free, but guest should bring one non-perishable food item — with a non-expired date — to donate to a local food bank in lieu of an entrance fee.

The Women’s Club International Department chairwoman and CEO of Africa Teach Foundation, Nan Josephson, is the organizer of this event. Part of the proceeds from the weekend will help the Africa Teach Foundation raise funds to build and equip a trade school for child orphan soldiers in Uganda. These are children who have been displaced and marginalized by war . The proposed school will help them earn a living and build their own support system.

Money raised during the event will also be used for scholarships to be awarded to three Glen Ridge High School seniors. Nine students will be displaying their art work during this event in hopes of winning one of these awards. Participating artists will jury the show.

The lectures on Saturday evening will include slide show presentations by Ellen Jewett, natural history surrealist sculptor, and Angelo Ciotti, environmental reclamation artist. The talks will be followed by a question-and-answer session with all of the weekend’s instructors.

Rounding out the evening will be an artisan market where artwork, books and other items will be for sale. This time also will provide the opportunity for conversations with all of the artists.
Complimentary, light refreshments will be served.
