GRHS Marching Band excels at competitions

GLEN RIDGE, NJ — The GRHS marching band placed at back-to-back events, the first at the US Bands State Championships at Union High School on Oct. 31. Glen Ridge faced off against 11 other marching bands in the Group IIA category. Its performance of Buddy Rich’s “West Side Story” garnered a score of 90.025 to place fifth, as well as second place in Music and third place for Effect.

On Sunday, Nov. 1, the GR band stepped onto Foley Field for the Bloomfield Invitational Competition, where it swept the Group C category with a Superior rating, and earned awards for Best Music, Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, and first place in its category. It went on to win Best Percussion Overall, beating out every other band in the competition, including one three times its size.

The Glen Ridge band heads to Dover, Delaware, on Nov. 8 for its final competition at the US Bands National Championships.
