GLEN RIDGE, NJ — On Monday, June 14, the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge entertained its senior members with an elegant yet casual luncheon, the first in-person club event hosted at the historic clubhouse since the pandemic began in March 2020. Nearly 20 senior members attended the luncheon in the club’s Mary Raymond Room and 10 board members were on hand to welcome them. Everyone in attendance was fully vaccinated.
In addition to a delectable lunch, members enjoyed a stunning display of fine art statuette dolls, donated by longtime Club member and Glen Ridge resident Roberta Rubin D’Ull. The Women’s Club plans to showcase the dolls to the community this summer.
While the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge has maintained a social and virtual presence for its members and the greater Glen Ridge community during the pandemic lockdown and the months that followed, this is the first in-person event the club has organized for its members since the onset of the pandemic. More than a year ago, the club’s first-ever Contemporary Chorus had planned to perform an evening of pop tunes on March 15, 2020. However, due to the ongoing threat of the pandemic, the club decided to postpone the event for the safety of its members and guests. Just one day after the scheduled event, Gov. Phil Murphy signed an executive order instating aggressive social-distancing measures.
In the coming months, the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge plans to host more in-person events for its members and is currently accepting new members. The clubhouse is also available to rent for private events, and has begun hosting weddings and other events in accordance with state guidelines.
Serving the community since 1905, the mission of the Women’s Club of Glen Ridge is to bring together a diverse group of women in an inclusive environment who, through friendship, volunteerism, education and leadership, engage in civic, social and cultural activities to serve the club and the greater Glen Ridge community.
