IRVINGTON, NJ — The Irvington NAACP hosted a presentation on policing on Thursday, Jan. 7, at Greater New Point Missionary Baptist Church on Paine Avenue. Numerous questions were asked about safety and the current role of community policing. Sgt. T. Charles was able to answer a few of the important questions explaining that patrols are writing tickets and reports about eyesores in the neighborhood.

They have specially labeled cars that say Community Police, but the officers do not have police powers. The force helps give regular police officers in Irvington the chance to answer more emergencies.

Town Council President Charnette Frederic was present and invited everyone to the State of the Town meeting at Christian Pentecostal Church on Thursday, Jan. 28, when the FBI will talk about combining police work to help with policing in Irvington. Residents of the town should report crimes to the Police Department for their action.
