LIVINGSTON, NJ — On Saturday, April 21, Temple B’nai Abraham held its 2018 annual event, “A Red Carpet Night,” which honored TBA members Joni and Alan Cohen, Nancy and Richard Dinar, Ethel and Robert Singer, Suzanne and Jeffrey Weinick, and Randi and Scott Wolfson, who have distinguished themselves in their dedication and commitment to the congregation as well as to the Jewish community and community-at-large. The Singers live in West Orange.
More than 230 people attended this festive evening, which began with havdalah and a tribute ceremony in the Ross Sanctuary. The highlight of the tributes was when each honorees’ children — Ari, Adam and Jesse Cohen; Josh Dinar, Meredith Johnson and Sami Dinar; Beth Krause and Jonathan Singer; Jessica and Joshua Weinick; and Jamie and Jordan Wolfson — shared heartfelt praise of their parents’ achievements and dedication to family, temple and community.
When West Orange residents Bob and Ethel Singer were choosing a synagogue, TBA was high on their list. Bob Singer was motivated by TBA’s history and role in the civil rights movement, and Ethel Singer by its liberal orientation, emphasis on music and the reputation of its schools. A current member of the board of trustees, Ethel Singer has served as president of PTA, co-president of Sisterhood, secretary and vice president of the temple, and has chaired the Prime Time Group for the past 17 years. Bob Singer, is a past president and current vice president of Men’s Club. He is a member of the Social Action Committee and was an integral member of its Green Team, which achieved “green” certification for TBA.
Outside TBA, Ethel Singer has been a member of local women’s choral group Shiru Nah, co-president of Livingston Hadassah and an active member of NCJW. Ethel Singer was Hadassah Woman of the Year in 1985, and won the National Leadership Award. Bob Singer has chaired panels for the NJ Supreme Court Fee Arbitration Committee, served as vice president of the Hebrew Free Loan Society, secretary of Jewish Historical Society of New Jersey and director of the Harvard Law School Association of NJ, among other community volunteer activities.
