Area Habitat for Humanity receives $50,000 grant

NEWARK, NJ — Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark announced a $50,000 grant from the Kislak Family Foundation of Miami Lakes, Fla., in a March 18 press release. The grant will support the building or rehabbing of homes to benefit low- to moderate-income families in Essex, Hudson and Union counties.

“In December, I attended the home dedication for the Habitat of Greater Newark home at 11 Grand Terrace,” said Jason Pucci, chief operating officer of New Jersey–based The Kislak Company Inc. “I met the partner family and toured the home. It was an amazing experience. Our company’s late chairman, Jay Kislak, valued mindful and meaningful philanthropy. He would be very pleased with the quality of the Livingston homes.”

Habitat of Greater Newark’s latest projects include two new homes in Livingston and Community Development Block Grant funding to complete critical repairs in the cities of East Orange, Elizabeth and Jersey City.

More than 101 families have benefited from Habitat of Greater Newark homes built with donations from individuals, families, corporations, foundations and faith-based organizations, and with support from thousands of volunteers and other local nonprofit organizations over the years.

Through its Critical Repair and Healthy Home Initiative, Habitat of Greater Newark also identifies and fixes barriers to safe and healthy living conditions such as mold and asbestos. By providing targeted repairs and improvements, such as energy-saving measures and aging-in-place functionality, Habitat of Greater Newark works to keep low-income families, seniors and veterans in the homes they already own.

“We are so grateful to everyone at Kislak for their continued support,” Habitat of Greater Newark CEO Jeffrey J. Farrell said. “Our homes in Livingston would not have been possible without donations from companies and foundations like Kislak.”

Tom Bartelmo, CEO of the Kislak Family Foundation, said, “Kislak is a real estate company and our people inherently understand the importance of safe, comfortable and affordable housing. Through the foundation, we are proud to support the community-building, family-focused work of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark in New Jersey, where Kislak got its start.”
