LIVINGSTON, NJ — On Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m., Temple B’nai Abraham’s Social Action Committee and Sisterhood will co-sponsor the 24th annual Women’s Interfaith Forum, celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, at the temple, 300 E. Northfield Road, Livingston.
Since 1994, the Temple B’nai Abraham Women’s Interfaith Forum, celebrating King’s life and legacy, gathers women from greater Essex County’s houses of worship and faith-based groups to share a vegetarian meal prepared by the women of TBA’s Sisterhood and a discussion about issues of interest to women of all backgrounds. Many guests have attended this event over the years. Acquaintances have turned into friendships as many returning invitees look forward to this yearly event.
The topic is “Effective Dissent: Getting Your Point Across.” Panelists to date are Elizabeth Meyer, the founder and lead organizer of the Women’s March on New Jersey; Saily M. Avelenda, co-executive director of NJ 11th for Change Inc., a member of the group’s board of directors and of the group’s founding steering committee; Rev. Robin Noelle Tanner, an American Unitarian Universalist minister notable for her activism for the causes of religious freedom and civil rights; and Jamila Raqib, executive director of the Albert Einstein Institution, which promotes the study and strategic use of nonviolent action worldwide. Additional panelists may be joining the discussion.
The snow date is Jan. 18. A vegetarian/dairy buffet supper will be served. Reservations are required. There is no charge for this event, but seating is limited.
