Residents invited to register for Metro YMCA’s 22nd annual golf tournament

wo-ymca-golf-tourn-wWEST ORANGE, NJ — To help neighbors in need, all local residents are invited to register for the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges’ 22nd annual golf tournament on Monday, Sept. 19. Admission is charged and includes the full day of golf and all evening activities.

Proceeds from the event at the picturesque Montclair Golf Club in West Orange go to the financial assistance fund for the Metro Y’s six branches: East Orange YMCA, Fairview Lake YMCA Camps, South Mountain YMCA in Maplewood, Sussex County YMCA, Wayne YMCA and West Essex YMCA in Livingston. Since 1994, the tournament has raised more than $1.4 million to support children and families who are struggling, Metro YMCA Chief Development Officer Lisa Kelly said in a press release.

“This is a fun way for people to support their community, knowing the money that’s raised gives individuals and families access to programs that promote youth development, healthy living and social responsibility,” Kelly said.

Golfers will enjoy a delicious brunch before the 11 a.m. shotgun start. The event includes refreshments throughout the day, afternoon cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, dinner, and a live auction.

The Metro Y will also announce the winner of the 2016 Kenneth A. DeGhetto Champion’s Cup. The award recognizes a spirit of generosity, sportsmanship and an unwavering support of the Metro YMCA and its mission to strengthen community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Retired Foster Wheeler Chairman Kenneth DeGhetto was the first recipient in 2011.

Non-golfing participants can register online for the evening festivities at a reduced rate. The event will be held at the Montclair Golf Club, located at 25 Prospect Ave. in West Orange. To register for golf and sponsorships, visit http://www.metroymcas.org/main/golf-tournament/.
