Selichot at Temple B’nai Abraham

LIVINGSTON, NJ — On Saturday, Sept. 24, beginning at 9 p.m., Temple B’nai Abraham will hold its observance of Selichot. Selichot, literally “forgiveness,” is the service held on the Saturday evening before Rosh Hashanah to help usher Jews into the themes of the High Holy Days. Selichot is a time of reflection and preparation.

As the Jewish people engage in personal acts of teshuva, tzedakah and tefila — repentance, charity and prayer — they explore the meaning of their lives. Selichot at Temple B’nai Abraham will include a viewing of the film, “The Lady in Number 6.” This Academy Award-winning documentary film tells the story of Alice Herz-Sommer, who was a pianist and Holocaust survivor. In the film, she shares her optimistic outlook on life.

After the film there will be a short Selichot service, which is concluded with the blast of the shofar. The evening will conclude by 11 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. This event is free and open to the community.
