MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Mary Vayas of Maplewood invites the community to celebrate, remember and honor her husband, Angelo Vayas, with her on Monday, June 13, at the Maplewood Country Club. She’ll be hosting the first “AV Hero Fund Golf Outing,” an event designed to raise awareness for glioblastoma, help others who are stricken with this disease, and provide hope and support for an eventual cure.
In 2013, Angelo Vayas was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme, or GBM. He did not let brain cancer define who he was; he fought it gallantly in order to live for as long as he could. His courage and strength were shining examples for all who knew him. At the age of 50, Angelo Vayas died after two years of battling brain cancer.
Angelo Vayas’ determination, fighting spirit, and the support of family, friends and the Maplewood/South Orange community are the inspiration for The AV Hero Fund. In honor of Angelo Vayas, the AV Hero Fund was created to provide hope and support back to the community in need. Through contributions, the proceeds will help individuals and families, to provide care and financial assistance toward emergency needs or to fulfill a life experience. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Caroline Vandemark Fund for Brain and Spine Tumor Research at Hackensack University Medical Center.
