MAPLEWOOD, NJ — CASA for Children of Essex County will host an information session at the main branch of Maplewood Public Library, 51 Baker St., on Saturday, April 30, at 10 a.m. Attendees will learn how volunteers can help improve the lives of abused and neglected children in foster care as CASA advocates. Advocates are appointed by Family Court to gather information about a child’s needs while in foster care and to represent a “child’s voice in court.”
The meeting will provide an overview of the CASA program, the foster care system in Essex County and the role of a CASA volunteer. Current volunteers will be on hand to share their experiences and answer questions.
“There is a great need for more volunteers in Essex County,” Carol Costello, volunteer director, said in a press release. “Our county is faced with the highest volume of children living in foster care in New Jersey. They all deserve the individual attention and support that a CASA advocate can provide”
