MAPLEWOOD, NJ — In June, New Jersey American Water is expected to begin conducting 2016 water system improvements in Maplewood Township. This will include cleaning and lining the water mains. The project is scheduled for run from June through November.
Between the months of May and September, NJAW’s contractor will be cleaning and lining water mains on Maplewood streets. Cleaning and lining is the process of removing sediment from inside a water main, then lining the inner surface of the main with cement. This procedure significantly improves the reliability of water service, water quality and fire flows in the area.
As part of the project, NJAW will also be replacing fire hydrants, valves and any service lines from the main to the curb box that are made of galvanized iron pipe. According to a press release, NJAW assured the township that its contractor will work quickly and diligently to minimize inconvenience to residents.
For more information, residents can contact NJAW’s construction inspector Rick Bace at 973-564-5715, or customer service at 1-800-272-1325.
