MONTCLAIR, NJ — Camp Marcella, a nonprofit N.J. camp for children with special needs or who are blind or visually impaired, will be hosting its first tricky tray fundraiser on Friday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. in School of Business Room 140 at Montclair State University, 1 Normal Ave. in Montclair.
The director, a former visually impaired camper at Camp Marcella, has been working with a group of fellow camper alumni to collect items to be raffled off at the event.
“Camp Marcella was a special place for me as a child, where I learned self-confidence, social skills and activities of daily living, and was able to spend time among other visually impaired peers my own age,” Camp Marcella Director Krystyn Gallant said in a press release. “It means so much to me now, as camp director, to help raise money in order to pass that experience on to future generations.”
Gallant and her fellow alumni have been avidly seeking items to be donated and raffled off for the event. Funds raised will help pay for expenses, including staff salaries, supplies and materials for activities such as crafts and sports, as well as maintenance and upkeep of exiting camp property and supplies.
Items so far secured to be raffled off at the May 11 event include restaurant gift cards, gift baskets, sports memorabilia, massage certificates, theater, live performance tickets and more.
